[I] Birthdays [message #257181] Sa, 15 April 2006 21:57

(It's a warm April evening in Kansas. Four ferrets - Murphy, Max and brother
and sister Skippy and Skippy - lay on the grass and watch the glow of the
setting sun gradually disappear in the West. Little lights begin to flitter
in the air around them.)

Murphy: It's such a peaceful evening. Not like it was a week ago.

Skippy: True. So much has happened since then. How is Paul doing, by the
way?

Max: He's doing fine. It hasn't hit him as hard as he thought, from what he
told me. It'll take him some time for it to sink in.

Murphy: So much going on. What with all the things happening in the world
today - big things and little things - I think we tend to forget what
happiness is.

Max: Well, old friend, maybe we need to remind people. Why don't you start?

Murphy: Okay (begins to sing)

Happiness is finding a pencil...

Max:
Pizza with sausage...

Skippy:
Telling the time.

Max:
Happiness is learning to whistle...

Skippy:
Tying your shoe
For the very first time.

Max:
Happiness is playing the drum
In your own school band.

Murphy:
And happiness is walking hand in hand.

Happiness is two kinds of ice cream...

Skippy (whispering):
Knowing a secret...

Max:
Climbing a tree.

Skippy:
Happiness is five dif'rent crayons...

Max (grabbing a little light in the air):
Catching a firefly...

Murphy (opening Max's paws):
Setting him free.

(Max and Murphy watch the little light flitter away.)

Murphy:
Happiness is being alone ev'ry now and then.

All:
And happiness is coming home again.

Murphy:
Happiness is morning and evening,
Daytime and nighttime too.
For happiness is anyone and anything at all
That's loved by you.

Max: We want to wish happy birthdays to Gillie Houck, Chris Hill, Andromeda,
Andrea J Chee, Tracy Wilkinson, David Dewilde, James Dooferlad Tunnicliffe,
Lindsay Endell...

Skippy: ...Joanne Lacy, Mouse Daredevil Harries, Jan H. Haul, Lars Balker
Rasmussen, Julie Montgomery, Claire Gamble, Matthew du Plessis, Ian
Rogers...

Skippy: ...Thomas P. Steggell II, frodo in Canada, Mr. Pterry, John
"Homicide" Gilbertson, Keith Willoughby, Jenny Preston, Michael Gavin...

Murphy: ...and anyone else in the second half of April that we're
forgetting. Remember, to get on the Birthday List, send an e-mail to
birthdays [at] lspace.org . We hope you have many more!!

Max: Sammy is off doing rabbi stuff for the holiday and wants us to wish you
folks a happy Passover!

Skippy (singing):
Happiness is having a sister...

Skippy:
Sharing a sandwich...

Skippy and Skippy:
Getting along.

All:
Happiness is singing together when day is through.
And happiness is those who sing with you.

Happiness is morning and evening,
Daytime and nighttime, too,

Murphy:
For happiness is anyone and anything at all
That's loved by you.

Thanks, Paul, for taking the time and trouble to do this.
That was lovely.

<snipsnap>

That was great as always, Paul. Good to know you are coping well.

As good as ever, Paul.

I'm sure no-one would have minded, and everyone understood, if you'd
wanted to miss this edition, though.
